The Principals have complementary skills, extensive industry experience and, on average, have been working together for over a decade. The team is divided into functional specialists across: sourcing, execution, diligence, reporting, and operations. K1 has built dedicated teams focused on these activities to allow each Principal and team member to focus on his or her strengths and contribute to the investment process within his or her area of expertise.

Raya Al-Khatib

Raya Al-Khatib

Raya is responsible for sourcing and evaluating new investments. She focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software. Raya also supports current portfolio companies.

Previously, Raya worked at RSM McGladrey as a valuation consultant. Raya received her B.S. in Finance, Real Estate, and Law, Magna Cum Laude, from California State Polytechnic University of Pomona, where she delivered the commencement speech at the College of Business graduation ceremony.

Raya currently is working on her MBA at the Graziadio School of Business at Pepperdine.

Hasan Askari

Hasan Askari

Hasan Askari is a Managing Partner at K1 Investment Management. He is responsible for sourcing new investments and is an active board member for K1’s portfolio companies and advisor to K1’s management teams.

Previously Mr. Askari worked in the growth equity practice at Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors where he focused on growth equity and buyout investments. Mr. Askari also previously worked at Pathway Capital Management where he focused on monitoring and analyzing private equity fund investments. Mr. Askari started his career in the client coverage group of Morgan Stanley.

Mr. Askari is a graduate of the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, where he received a BS in Business Administration.

Mr. Askari serves on the Board of Directors of UgandaProject, a grassroots non-profit focused on supporting orphans in Uganda. He is also a member of the Advisory Council of Invisible Children, a non-profit focused on ending the LRA conflict in Africa. Previously, he was a member of the Board of Governors for the University of Southern California’s Alumni Association.

Taylor Beaupain

Taylor Beaupain

Taylor Beaupain is a Managing Partner at K1 Investment Management. He is responsible for legal execution and financing of investments and is an active board member for K1’s portfolio companies and advisor to K1’s management teams.

Previously Mr. Beaupain was a partner in the growth equity practice at Kayne Anderson where he managed growth equity and buyout investments. Mr. Beaupain started his career in the financial sponsors investment banking group of Merrill Lynch where he focused on mergers, acquisitions and financings for the portfolio companies of global private equity firms.

Mr. Beaupain is a graduate of the UCLA Anderson School of Management, where he received an MBA and was a Dean’s Scholar, and of Washington and Lee University, where he received a BS in Business Administration, summa cum laude.

Mr. Beaupain has served as a director of numerous companies and is an active participant in the UCLA Anderson School of Management Dean’s Society and the UCLA Chancellor’s Society.

Brian Beard

Brian Beard

Brian is responsible for sourcing and evaluating new investments. He focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software. Brian also supports current portfolio companies.

Previously, Brian worked at Robert Half International in their Finance & Accounting division and has experience working for software startups. Brian graduated with a double degree in English and Communication from the University of California, Santa Barbara where he graduated with honors and participated in their honors research internship program. Brian is currently receiving his MBA at Arizona State University.

Brian volunteers at NorCal Golden Retriever Rescue and Relay for Life sponsored by the American Cancer Society.

Hagop Boyaci

Hagop Boyaci

Hagop is responsible for deal structuring, negotiation, financing, legal due diligence and execution of growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software companies. He also provides ongoing support to K1’s portfolio companies.

Prior to joining K1, Hagop worked as a management consultant where he developed, implemented, and managed operational initatives for senior management in the financial services industry.

Hagop received his J.D. from the University of California Irvine, School of Law and a B.A. from the University of California, Irvine, where he graduated Phi Betta Kappa. Hagop is licensed to practice law in California.

Hagop volunteers with the Volunteers of America in their Upward Bound program, which provides career counseling to first generation immigrant children. Hagop has also volunteered with the Mississippi Center for Justice to provide legal representation to indigent clients displaced due to Hurricane Katrina.

Ronald E. Cano II

Ronald E. Cano II

Ron Cano is a Managing Partner at K1 Investment Management. He leads diligence for new investments and is an active board member for K1’s portfolio companies and advisor to K1’s management teams.
Previously, Mr. Cano worked at Vista Equity Partners and Clearlake Capital where he focused on buyout investments of software companies. Mr. Cano also previously worked in the Global Strategy and Acquisitions group at Thomson SA where he managed minority and control investments, in addition to assisting the management teams on various operational initiatives. Mr. Cano started his career in the technology, media, and telecom group at Bear Stearns.

Mr. Cano is a graduate of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he received an MBA, and of Georgetown University, where he received a BS in Business Administration, cum laude.

Mr. Cano has served as a director of numerous companies and is actively involved with the Robert Toigo Foundation, of which he is an alumnus.

James Fearis

James Fearis

James is responsible for sourcing and evaluating new investments. He focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software. James also supports current portfolio companies.

Previously, James worked at Goldman Sachs in the Institutional Equities division and as a consultant at TSA Group. James graduated with a double degree in Commerce and Economics from the University of Western Australia, where he was an active member of the Study Abroad society. He completed exchanges at UCLA and the University of Bristol.

James volunteers at feedLA and at the Dogs’ Refuge Home and Cat Haven in his hometown of Perth, Australia.

Darius Gant

Darius Gant

Darius is responsible for sourcing and evaluating new investments.  He focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software.

Previously, he was a Senior Analyst at Madison Street Capital, where he served as lead analyst on M&A and capital raise transactions.  Darius also earned a CPA as an Auditor with KPMG and played professional basketball with various professional leagues.

Darius received an MBA from Columbia Business School, where he was a recipient of the Robert Toigo Foundation Fellowship, and a BS in Accounting from Illinois Wesleyan University.

He is actively involved with the Robert Toigo Foundation and Management Leadership for Tomorrow.

David Cheng

David Cheng

David is responsible for sourcing and evaluating new investments. David focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software. David also supports current portfolio companies.

Previously, David worked at the University of Southern California as a research assistant as well as The SCAN Foundation, Ensign Services, and the Oregon State Hospital. David received his MS from the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology at the University of Southern California, where he graduated Phi Kappa Phi and was named a 2016 Spotlight Health Scholar at the Aspen Ideas Festival. David received a BA in Psychology from Willamette University.

David has been involved with United Way Days of Caring.

Dan Ghammachi

In addition to leading diligence of new investments, Dan is an active board member for K1’s portfolio companies and advisor to K1’s management teams.

Previously Dan worked at Media Solutions Holdings, Aerosoles, International Commerce Exchange Systems, and Applied Printing Technology. Dan is a graduate of Rutgers University, where he received an MBA, and of Montclair State University, where he received a BS in Accounting.

Dan has served as a member of the Small Business Investor Alliance (SBIA) Board of Governors.

Christian Grant

Christian is responsible for sourcing and evaluating new investments. He focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software. Christian also supports current portfolio companies.

Previously, Christian worked at Colony Capital, a real estate and investment management firm, SinoLatin Capital, and UBS. Christian received his BS in Business Administration, cum laude, from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, where he was involved in various groups within the Lloyd Grief Center for Entrepreneurial Studies.

Christian has been involved with fundraising activities for the Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles.

Kellen Haines

Kellen Haines

Kellen helps lead K1’s business development team and is responsible for sourcing and evaluating new investments. He focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software. Kellen also supports current portfolio companies.

Previously, Kellen worked at Utility Consulting Group, Northrop Grumman and Merrill Lynch. Kellen received his BS in Business Administration, magna cum laude, from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, where he was involved with student government and pro-bono consulting for non-profit organizations in the LA area.

Kellen currently volunteers at Habitat for Humanity and Life Rolls On, a non-profit supporting paralyzed athletes.

Zach Jarman

Zach is responsible for evaluating and executing new investments. He focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software. Zach also supports current portfolio companies.

Previously, Zach worked for Deloitte Consulting Strategy & Operations in Mergers & Acquisitions. Zach received his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, Summa Cum Laude, from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was the President and Captain of the skydiving team.

Tarun Jain

Previously, Tarun worked at Belvedere Trading, Bank of America, and Blackford Capital. Tarun received his B.S. in Business Administration, magna cum laude, from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, where he was involved in student government and pro-bono consulting for non-profit organizations in Los Angeles.

Matt Jones

Matt Jones

Matt Jones is the Director of Finance at K1 Investment Management. He is responsible for investor relations, external financial reporting, and he serves as the firms Chief Compliance Officer.

Previously, Matt worked at Holthouse Carlin & Can Trigt LLP, a leading CPA firm offering tax, audit and business management services to companies and individuals in the Los Angeles area. Most recently he worked at Aspiriant, an independent family office and wealth management firm serving clients throughout the United States.

Matt is a graduate of Sonoma State University where he received a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. While at Sonoma State he was the captain of the intercollegiate men’s golf team. Matt is a California Certified Public Accountant.

Roy Liao

Roy Liao

Roy is responsible for evaluating and executing new investments. He focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software. Roy also supports current portfolio companies.

Previously, Roy worked at Goudy Park Capital and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Roy is a graduate of the Kellogg School of Management, where he received a MBA, and of the University of California, Berkeley, where he received a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies. Roy is a CFA charterholder and a CPA.

Roy has been involved with Junior Achievement of Southern California, teaching finance programs to middle and high school students.

Neil Malik

Neil Malik

R. Neil Malik is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of K1 Investment Management. He is responsible for managing the firm’s strategy, governance and investment activities.

Previously Mr. Malik founded the growth equity practice at Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors where he focused on growth equity and buyout investments. Mr. Malik also previously worked in the private equity groups of Brentwood Associates and Olympus Partners where he focused investments on lower middle market companies. Mr. Malik started his career in the mergers and acquisitions group of J.P. Morgan Securities.

Mr. Malik is a graduate of the Harvard Business School, where he received an MBA, and of the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a BS in Finance from the Wharton School and a BAS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the school of Engineering and Applied Sciences, magna cum laude.

Mr. Malik is actively involved in the professional development of K1’s team and the management teams of K1’s portfolio companies. Since 2000, he has overseen over 120 completed transactions and serves on the boards of numerous K1 companies.

Mr. Malik serves on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Southern California, is an alumnus and board member for Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) and a member of Young Presidents Organization.

George Mansour

George Mansour

George is a Vice President on K1’s Execution Team. In addition to leading Debt Capital Markets at the firm, George focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software, serving as an active board member for K1’s portfolio companies and advisor to K1’s management teams

Previously, George worked at Wells Fargo in its Technology Finance Group and founded PNC Business Credits Software Recurring Revenue Lending Practice. George received his BS in Finance from Western Washington University and MBA from the Bordeaux Business School.

Jared Moberg

Jared Moberg

Jared is responsible for evaluating and executing new investments. He focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software. He also supports current portfolio companies.

Jared is a graduate of the University of Southern California where he received a B.A in Economics, Magna Cum Laude. While at USC he was named Discovery Scholar for his work analyzing agglomeration externalities.

He has volunteered through organizations at Phi Theta Kappa and the Ronald McDonald House.

Phan Nguyen

Phan is responsible for evaluating and executing new investments. She focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software. Phan also supports current portfolio companies.

Previously, Phan was a summer analyst at Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets – Macquarie Group’s private equity arm, Vietnam Investment Group – a private equity firm, and Gordian Knot – a London-based hedge fund. Phan received her B.A. in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Yale University, where she was the Founder and President of the Yale Undergraduate Private Equity and Venture Capital Club.

Phuong Ninh

Previously, Phuong worked for Accenture Consulting in their Technology group, and at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey in their Leveraged Finance group. Phuong received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Magna Cum Laude, from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was the Co-Founder and Vice President of the Strength Sports Club.

Michael Pasquale

Michael is responsible for evaluating and executing new investments. He focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software. Michael also supports current portfolio companies.

Previously, Michael worked at Deloitte Corporate Finance, LLC. where he was a member of the investment banking team.  Michael received his B.B.A in Finance, cum laude, with a minor in accounting from Loyola Marymount University where he was a member of the Student Investment Fund.

Michael has been a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the Los Angeles Mission.

Katy Pickett

Katy Pickett

Katy is responsible for day to day implementation of the firm’s overall compliance program and ensuring that the organization’s activities satisfy all SEC guidelines. In addition to compliance, Katy manages the process of reporting to limited partners. Previously, Katy worked in production as assistant line producer on TV shows such as Dexter, Mad Men and Love.

Katy graduated from UCLA where she received a B.A. in Global Studies and a B.A. in Environmental Studies. She is an active volunteer at UCLA Ronald Reagan Hospital and Little Company of Mary in Torrance, and an active participant in Tour de Pier that raises money for cancer research.

Sam Seo

Sam Seo

Sam is responsible for evaluating, deploying, and managing applications and systems at K1. He also analyzes new investments in enterprise software companies and provides ongoing support to K1’s portfolio companies.

Prior to joining K1, Sam worked in managed services where he developed, implemented, and managed IT services for companies in the Greater Los Angeles Area. Sam received his BS in Electrical Engineering from New York University.

He volunteered for Engineering Without Borders and taught coding classes at Tech Kids Unlimited, a non-profit technology-based educational organization for students with special needs.

Lauren Shimbo

Previously, Lauren worked at US Bank within the wholesale lending group. Lauren received her BS in Mathematics and Economics at University of California, Los Angeles, where she served as community service director for the Student Alumni Association.

Lauren is involved with Operation Jump Start, a scholarship organization focused on students from underserved neighborhoods of Long Beach.

Jenna Sleefe

Previously, she worked at Internet Brands, a portfolio company of KKR, where she was responsible for sourcing deals, directing due diligence, negotiating legal documentation, and leading post close integration.

Jenna is a graduate of Southwestern Law School, where she received a JD, and of Hofstra University where she received a BA in Public Relations. Jenna is a member of the California bar.

Jenna is currently a member of the Board of Directors of 310 Young Professionals, a non profit organization dedicated to connecting professional in the Southern California area.

Mike Velcich

Previously, he worked at Frontier Capital, where he was responsible for sourcing and evaluating new investment opportunities. Prior to that, Mike worked at Adams Street Partners and Kayne Anderson. Mike is a graduate of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where he received an MBA, and of Stanford University, where he received a BA in History.

Henry Wang

Previously, Henry worked for Patpatia & Associates, Commerce Capital Group, and Alpha Titans. Henry received his B.A. in Economics, cum laude, from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he was a member of the student investment fund and finance club.

Henry has been a volunteer for Challenger Baseball, Little League’s adaptive baseball program for individuals with physical and developmental challenges.

Shane Young

Previously, Shane worked for AdvisorNet Financial and STEP Strategy Advisors. Shane received his B.S. in Finance, cum laude, from Loyola Marymount University, where he gained experience evaluating investments serving as a member of the Student Investment Fund during his senior year.

Shane volunteered as a mentor through the Children Uniting Nations organization and the Loyola Marymount Finance Mentoring program.

Molly Youngblood

Molly is responsible for directing K1’s marketing efforts and manages the process of reporting to limited partners. She focuses on building content and marketing strategy along with coordinating events.
Previously, Molly worked at LTE Media, Kellwood Company and Merrill Lynch.

She graduated with honors from Michigan State University where she received her B.A. in Marketing and a minor in International Business. During her time at school, she coached a high school lacrosse team and actively supported the Alpha Phi Foundation, dedicated to improving women’s heart health.

Simon Yu

Simon is responsible for evaluating and executing new investments. He focuses on growth capital and buyout investments in enterprise software. Simon also supports current portfolio companies. Simon was previously with Goldman Sachs, where he worked in the Credit Alternatives group within the asset management division. Simon received a B.S. in Accounting and Finance, summa cum laude, from the Stern School of Business at New York University.

Alec Zwaneveld

Previously, Alec worked at Belkin International in their Global Finance division. Alec graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he competed on the water polo team, winning National Championships in 2014 and 2015, while earning NCAA academic All-American honors every eligible year.

Alec volunteers for Team Prime Time, a full-inclusion, peer-mentor sports program wherein student coaches play alongside children with developmental disabilities.

Sujit Banerjee is a Managing Partner at K1 Investment management. He is responsible for leading K1 Operations and its proprietary IOps initiative throughout the portfolio.

Previously Mr. Banerjee formed the sourcing team alongside Neil at Element Partners. Mr. Banerjee also worked in the venture capital group at Bluerun Ventures and was a management consultant at PriceWaterhouse Coopers. Mr. Banerjee began his career at Synoptics Communications where he designed networking equipment. Mr. Banerjee is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business, where he received an MBA, and of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he received a BS in Electrical Engineering with Eta Kappa Nu academic honors.

Mr. Banerjee has served as a director and founder of numerous technology companies. He is involved with SV FACES, a non-profit focused on building communities free of bias, bigotry and violence, and Acumen, an organization focused on investing in social entrepreneurs in developing countries.
